Building a new air intake for the RZR!

Building a new air intake for the RZR, I think it is going to perform well, I am fabing it out of 3" exhaust tubing with the filter protruding through the bed where it is away from most of the dust and debris. Finished the prototype this weekend and I will get pics up ASAP but for now I gotta go to work!

P.S. It really sounds cool after the first fire up!!!!!!!!!

Same mod has been done by a couple of guys now. Works good. Since you went LT why didnt you go with the UMP setup from Custom Motor Sports? It really is a great filter set up and leaves your bed available for a cooler! LOL

Isn't that a Lonestar roll cage?

Re: Building a new air intake for the RZR!

No its a RZR Crap or (UTV crap now) cage, I love it best looking cage in my opinion. If I was to build these to sell would anybody want it? It sounds really cool now that there is no intake muffler (which is part of the stock design) and it seems to improve power a little. The bed is still usable for a cooler with no problem at all I have carried a bit of stuff back there with no problems as of yet. I would include everything to install the kit for like $200.00 and even a template for cutting the hole in the bed. Just seeing if there is a market here!? LOL.

Re: Building a new air intake for the RZR!

I would take one. I actually am waiting on my mandrel bent aluminum tubing to come in as I was about to make one myself since noone has stepped up and made these for sale and they are obviously far superior to everything else available. The key with the intake is simplicity. This completely eliminates that badly designed box and will probably increase airflow at least 50%. Put the filter in the corner of the bed, make it solid, place a water jacket on it and go ride. If you are going to sell these that would prevent me from doing the work. I already have a filter and pre filter though. What would you want for one and whats your turn around?

Re: Building a new air intake for the RZR!

When you guys do this, how are you venting the clutch area?
Just leaving the stock air box for that?
Just how noisy is that set up going to be?
And how much bed space do you actually lose?
My main problem with this type of system is the loss of cargo space. When my son and I are running the desert we have a cooler, fuel and the storage box.

Re: Building a new air intake for the RZR!

If you can imagine, you actually only lose the three inch area that the intake tube will be coming through. If you place it in the front driver side corner then it will primarily leave you the entire cargo area. I was planning on either running the trans intake to a 90 degree elbow that rests on the top of the bed kind of like the snorkle kits just shorter or just placing a k&N filter on it and leaving it in the stock location. By removing the stock inake problem box and the stock filter box I have removed approx 5 lbs from the bike. I'm sure the intake we are looking at should not weigh 5lbs so there should be no weight disadvantage and like I said before there is no place for the air to leak through now.

Re: Building a new air intake for the RZR!

I like the concept, but I dont want the filter the bed myself. I have started my own design using 3" SS tubing. I want to get it done before spring and the good riding hits.
