Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

You have likely seen my threads on the original installation of the TSI turbo kit, and saw what I had to do to keep the tires from making contact with the turbo & exhaust pipe. Well after blowing out one of the rubber stoppers on the shocks I had finally had enough.
It was time to relocate the turbocharger!

The pics below show the project in the mock up stage, Before having HPC do the coatings on everything. More pics to come when the project is finished.

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

looks good man, but arnt you worried about mud or rock ect.. hitting the intercooler. wouldnt it be better to be mounted int the box so no worries in nothing hitting it? just a thought.

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

I worried about the same thing, but I have almost 1,000 miles on it with the intercooler in that location, and haven't had any problem with the Intercooler at all. It doesn't really get that dirty.

It has surprised me just how clean it has been.
Just to be clear though, I try to avoid the big mud pits.

I got one thing to say
"Where's my money TSI?"
I told TSI and others a long time ago that B.S. set up wouldn't work on a stock RZR and I got the we will look into excuse

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

Depending on your boost level, the springs on the connecting points will not be tight enough and leak which will slow your boost and possibly lower it. Even if it doesn't lower the boost, the turbo may be working harder than it needs to because of this. You may want to look into stronger springs or possibly putting 2 on each spot. You should see signs of exhaust leakage if they aren't strong enough.
You wouldn't believe the number of springs I have seen on some snowmobiles - but they are running big boost numbers.
And intercoolers are generally very strong. They are run directly behind the front tire on many street bikes getting pummeled with road debis.
Looks good.

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

Thanks for the heads up.
Do you think it will have a problem with exhaust leaking at 8-9 #?
That is about all it will ever see.

That is a great idea about having 2 springs on each hook.

That is the location of the MCX-USA turbo. The intercooler is up in the fresh air.

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

That looks like a really nice system; I really like how nice it fits in there. I just wasn't willing to give up so much bed space.
I really like the Polaris bed box for easily stowing my gear, & there would be no way I could have used it with any of the kits like that one.

The prices on all of the other turbo kits were all more than I was wiling to spend.
I think I was in mine about $2,700.
Even with the changes I have made to it, (Relocated turbo, Adjustable boost controller, Intake air silencer & snorkel) I am only in it about $3,200.

It is really cool that so many kits are available now, but almost all of them are still around $5,000. or more. I would have stayed N/A if that was the best price I could have found.

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

Tell me the lambda probe is the part of turbo kit or separate system to measure AFR?

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

The Wideband o-2, EGT, Boost/Vac, & Oil pressure gauges were not part of the kit. They were separate gauges I bought to keep an eye on things. They are very nice to have.

The Wideband o-2 & Boost/Vac gauges are worth their weight in gold. I can't see how I would get by without them.

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

UPDATE...

The glass pack muffler was horribly loud!
We modified the stock muffler and now it is back to a respectable sound level.

The HPC coatings have been done on the pipes, but not yet on the muffler. The EGT probe isn't in yet, so that is why the pre turbo fitting has an empty hole.

Boost It, Thanks for the tip on using the dual springs on the connection points, it works great!

Re: Relocating the turbo on a TSI Turbo kit (Pics)

Still no water cooling? I'd put a turbo timer on it or just let it idle for a minute or two before shutting it down to cool off the thrust bearings. Great to see it still running strong though! I'll be keeping an eye on your install threads, they have some great info in them...
