low idle
My idle is lower now. I started out fine. Ran some country roads like a rally car for about 15 minutes then stopped to investigate a hill climb. Climbed the hill fine then came back down and it started stumbling at idle and fighting to stay running. Had to feather the throttle and hold the brake at stops and to shift gears. Runs mid and wide open fine. What happened? Air cleaner looks clean. 13 hours on engine. Idles rough at 600 to 800. Calling dealer in the morning. This is bad timing cause I'm leaving for Dunefest on Wednesday.

Re: low idle
Mine does that after being in a lot of dust. Try cleaning the filter even if it looks clean already.

Re: low idle
Check for dust past the filter. It can build up on the sensor in the boot and give the ECU bad readings. It can also build up on the throttle plate and keep it from closing all the way. The TPS reads this as tip-in and goes richer but you still don't have any extra airflow to go along with it.
Also your plugs might be a little fouled.

Re: low idle
I had the same problem I removed the air filter and cleaned the t-bar sensor in the intake boot and throttle plate with mass air flow cleaner and all returned to normal also I picked up more power then I had before. Larry

Re: low idle
I had that suspicion. I was riding in extreme dusty conditions. Just idling around in my truck there was a cloud behind me. Very silty, flour like, dust. I have a black outerwears prefilter on the K&N and it was still black. The amount of dust in the can was minimal also. But you guys could be right. It's at the dealer now. I'll tell you what they find. It's not in there just for that. I'm not that lazy. I just didn't want to deal with cv boot replacement. The guy said if I wanted it done by Wednesday, he'd have to 'ding' me. That'll be a nice bill just before taking a week off work and going to a festival with a vendors row of aftermarket parts.

Re: low idle
My did that before the motor blew! Check your filter every 15 minutes says Polaris!

Re: low idle
Just for every bodies information, they didn't find anything wrong with the idle. It ran fine for them. They ran it in the back of the shop on the track for 10-15 minutes and it didn't act up for them. Isn't that typical? I'm thinking that some dust particles threw off some sensor that tells the efi about what elevation it should run at. I'll never know what it actually was.

Re: low idle
Check the throttle plate past your intake hose, dirt buillds up in this area and the engine can't suck as much air making the rpms lower.

Re: low idle
Started having the low idle yesterday after riding on a dusty trail for a few hours. The air cleaner was fine, even replaced it to be sure. I sprayed carb cleaner on the throttle plate and it fixed the problem immediately.

it sounds like there was a small amount of dirt/carbon build up on the throttle plate causing this "choking" problem. the engine does not have enough air to fuel ratio causing this lower RPM. It only takes a minute amount to close that gap between the throttle plate and the opening. I repair cars for a living and that is the usual culprit when it comes to low/stumbling RPMs. if left long enough on cars, it usually throws an O2 sensor code. -H

Re: low idle
Remember that carb cleaner can eat plastic and the T-BAR sensor in the intake is plastic. USE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CLEANER.

Re: low idle
Mine did this and it was the boot from the air box to the throttle body. It had come off and I ran it in VERY Dusty conditions. OUCH!

Re: low idle
I did the same thing with carb cleaner too. Did not know about it's affect on the plastic parts. I just put a temp.fix to the air cleaner by putting a UNI on. After riding for 4 1/2 hrs, my ride wouldn't idle to well. By the time I got home it wouldn't idle at all. I pulled the filter off and sprayed a few shots of cleaner and it cleared up and idled fine. Hope I didn't mess anything up. I run a clean rag down the intake and didn't get any dirt. Oh well, like I said, I hope I didn't "F" something up...Thanks fer the tip on the Mass sensor cleaner, I'll have to get some if this is gonna be a problem... Need to just replace the whole system..
