Re: removing spacer good or bad idea???

I know 2 people who have done it. Both picked up about 5 mph. One ate 3 belts in 100 miles and he puit the spacer back on and no issues since, The second one has about 250 miles on it with absolutely no issues. I think I would probably pass, not really worth the gain.

Re: removing spacer good or bad idea???

Even a 5mph gain would likely cost hundreds to achieve any other way. This one's free. All it does is allow the clutch sheaves to close a little further, making the belt ride higher & increasing your "gear" ratio. It's probably put there to keep top speed to a more sane level (reducing accidents and probably more important--to show the courts in the inevitable future that Polaris made attempts to limit speed) but what fun is that?

I can't see how this mod would shorten belt life. Most belt problems are caused by heat from low speed/high torque use. The spacer doesn't affect low speed at all. The only explanation I can think of is that owner didn't allow his belt to properly break-in. His belts would have shredded whether he had the spacer in there or not.

Yeah sure. That's such a load of BS on that page. Anyone who understands CVTs knows their (mis)information is completely false. Any faith I had in DFR was shot to hell with that page. Just because any schmoe can get 5-10mph more out of their Rzr FREE shouldn't be reason for DFR to put out this misinformation in an attempt to make a sale.

Re: removing spacer good or bad idea???

We took ours off and reached 65mph with stock RZR. However you break the belt within 100 miles. If you buy a high performance belt it comes with a replacement spacer (about a 1/3 size of stock spacer) The spacer will work with a stock belt or high performance belt and the RZR reaches around 63 mph and the belt life is much longer.

Re: removing spacer good or bad idea???

That sounds pretty sweet. I havent took apart the clutch yet is it hard to do? Couldnt you just rework the stock spacer so it is about a 3rd of the size?

Re: removing spacer good or bad idea???

It's very easy.
Seats out
Clutch cover off.
Ultra sharp chisel
Split both ends of the bushing and it's out.
IF you use this method, don't chisel through the bushing and mar the shaft.
I'm assuming you could make a bushing or even cut down the original bushing but I don't know what your speed gain will be.

Re: removing spacer good or bad idea???

LOL Don't be ridiculous, you didn't break two belts by removing the spacer.
You may have had some installation issues or even 2 defective belts BUT you didn't break 2 belts because the spacer was not in place.
