Clutch Issues??

I just purchased my RZR from a Buddy. The rig has been previously submerged and after pulling the clutch housing cover off I found a mess. The belt appears to be in good shape. When I put the RZR in gear (forward or reverse) and lightly apply the gas, the whole machine jerks back and forth. After I get going, above 5 mph the rig smoothes out. I cleaned the clutches as best as I could. I removed the secondary clutch and cleaned/lightly sanded the helix to ensure smooth operation. This is extremely frustrating and perplexing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brandon

Re: Clutch Issues??

Double check that the belt doesn't have high and low spots along the faces that ride on the sheaves of the clutch. The previous owner might have smoked that belt. Hopefully nothing major.

Re: Clutch Issues??

I have a friend who sunk his in a deep bog, and I helped him take off the belt and cleaned everything. Then he was pulling out another ride (in high gear, idiot) anyway, now his rig is making a racket and is real jerky in high gear until he gets up and going. I think his belt it shot. I'm helping him replace it tonight and will let you know if this solves the problem, b/c your discription is exactly what his is doing.

Re: Clutch Issues??

Last Night, I replaced the belt w/ a stock Polaris belt and went for a drive at low speeds (1-5mph). The belt did not resolve the issue. I left the clutch housing cover off and went for a drive, I was able to observe the secondary sheaves shutter back and forth, almost like the clutch is engaging and disengaging (when sitting inside, you get jerked back & forth). Keep in mind, this only happens at speeds from 1-5mph. Anything above this, the RZR drives fine. I replaced the transmission fluid that was a grayish color with fresh AGL fluid. I also replaced the transfer case fluid and rear end fluid. Still no fix!! Before heading in for the night, I put the transmission in neutral and slowly applies the gas w/ my foot on the brake. The secondary clutch did not shutter as it does when in drive or reverse!!

Re: Clutch Issues??

I would think you probley need to pull both the clutchs off and tear them apart and grease "lube" everything to make sure everything is sliding well and the weights are moving free

Re: Clutch Issues??

Will do. In fact, I ordered a clutch kit from HL. I will be installing it this afternoon. Hopefully this will fix the problem, but I doubt it. The strange part is the secondary acts different when in neutral verses in gear. I'll keep you posed of the outcome after the install. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am baffled!
