Holtz Derlin secondary washer?

Anybody using one of these? If so, does it make a difference?

Info from Holtz website:
RZR / RZR-S Anti-Friction Derlin Secondary Washer
Retail Price: $3.50
The Holz Racing Products Anti-Friction Derlin Secondary Washer
This washer is designed to help improve backshift performance in the TAS-03 Rubber Damped Team Secondary clutch on the RZR and RZR-S.
Cheap, Simple, Effective...no brainer.

Why is this part important?
A coil spring will naturally want to turn or twist as it is being compressed. This can cause friction and a sort of binding affect which results in inconsistent performance.
Because the Derlin material is self lubricating, this inexpensive little part will help eliminate that problem by giving the spring a smooth surface to turn/twist on while it is being compressed.

Only 1 washer is required

Re: Holtz Derlin secondary washer?

It is supposed to make the secondary move smoother due to less drag on the spring. I dont think you will see any change on the RZR, maybe good for racing when you are trying to squeeze out every last drop of HP and performance. You can find these washers for the P90 clutch on all the snowmobile sites for a couple of bucks.

I bought one when I was getting other stuff from them but I haven't had the secondary apart to install it...

You could also expect a little longer lifespan for your secondary spring as it will see less stress because it is not binding as much.
Don’t think you are going to buy a $3.50 "performance" part and all of the sudden win drag races, but there is a purpose for the part and it does the job. This is not the single answer to all clutching problems, but a small part of the big picture. Also, to answer some myths, it's not a spacer, just a thin piece of plastic whose sole purpose is to provide a smooth surface for the spring to twist on.
The purpose/function of having this washer is tried and true. This is snowmobile clutching 101 and has been a staple tuning part for almost as long as there have been CVT clutches. There are several suspension companies who sell a similar part for the coil spring shocks.

Racing or not shouldn't matter.

I dont suppose it really would except our part is sized to fit under the spring against the clutch sheave. The OD of the washer is too big to fit against the spider plate

Re: Holtz Derlin secondary washer?

I took my Team secondary apart today for inspection (my primary is headed to Dirty Dawg Dale as we speak). My build date is in June of 08. My 08 service manual shows a metal "spacer" under the secondary spring. Mine has no spacer there, so I went online to Babbits to look at their parts fiche for the secondary. It does not show a spacer or anything that goes under the spring. Has anyone ever had a spacer on their pre 10/08 build date Team secondary?

Edit:.....Also will the Holz delrin washer fit in this location on my secondary? I can see a benefit to a slippery washer there. On mine you can tell exactly where the end of the spring has been riding on the magnesium inner sheave, there is a shiny spot there.

Re: Holtz Derlin secondary washer?

I have run Delrin washers on every sled I have owned for years. It is very important with clutching on the snow as spring binding can really affect the performance of your sled. Holz is 100% correct as to why to use this product.

Re: Holtz Derlin secondary washer?

the springs definitely show wear on the ends..the washers make sense, i think they could prolong the life of the springs as well.

Except for the shipping....$11.56 to send one washer that is $3.50, weighs nothing and can be sent in a letter sized envelope?

If you tell Matt USPS he'll make sure they do it that way in the shipping department...

Matt actually took mine to the Post Office on his way home from work...
