2 broken axles

my front axle clicks but i could still drive. so i went down to the track yesterday. did a few laps hit a small jump and snap. get back on the gas pulled hard to the left. i thought i blew the rear. got off and had my buddy it the gas and the left side rear axle spins but the last boot does not. you can wiggle the axle and it hits nothing in the boot anymore. i broke it good.the clicking in the front is probably the axle right.i would buy some better axles but the only ones i could find are gorilla axles and they are 415 a piece. any idea how the stockers cost. and do they just pop out of the diferentials like car axles with a clip on the inside?

Re: 2 broken axles

the OEM axles are $250.00 a piece... for the ENTIRE AXLE ASSEMBLY...from gearcase to wheel., the front axles are available, the rear axles are on backorder till 9/20/07. yes the clicking is probably one of the CV boots.... got any ripped boots? thats really the only reason it would be clicking is because it got dirt on it, the rear one im not sure how ya broke it, besides landing to hard maybe.
You can also buy JUST the cv joint itself, which would NOT include a the boot or the center shaft....
Front inner CV Joints(towards gearcase) are 79.99
Front out CV joints(towards wheelside) are 179.99 both are available

Rear CV inner(gearcase side) is 209.99(youd be further off to buy a hole shaft and have the rest as spare parts)
Rear CV outer(wheel side)$159.99 both are available.
In the rear though I think you would be further off to buy the hole shaft and keep the spare parts either way, just because of the cost of replacement parts.

And yes they just pop out like a car driveshaft. they have a circlip on the end of the shaft where the shaft goes into the gearcase, just pry it out.

A quick yank is usually all that's needed. No lube is lost, the seal is around the socket.

Re: 2 broken axles

I was told my replacement axle would be available Oct. 9th... So hopefully my down time will be less than two weeks. I assume the fix is gonna be the same weak link...

Re: 2 broken axles

Hey guys where can I get a rear left axle. I broke the outer joint and the shaft splines seem stript. Should I just buy the entire axle.
