trouble with gear sensor?????
Hi all I was just wondering if anyone know's how the rzr's computer system digital readout on the display can tell what gear it is in? I took my machine out for a ride and when I pulled it into high range it showed the L for low range on the display. I downshifted into low range and the display showed N neutral, dropped it into neutral the display showed R, but when I went into reverse it stayed in the R position. I tried adjusting my linkage going into the transmission, it didn't seem to make a difference no matter where I had it adjusted. My question is, where is the transmission gear sensor? Can a person adjust it? The transmission works perfectly it is just that with this problem when I put it in low range it shows Neutral and kicks awd out. I noticed some times when I was wiggleing it would show no gear selection and it would have a check engine warning on the display. I had the misfortune of loseing my manuel on transport so I can't look in it for any pointers, I will try and find one online if anyone could provide a link to one I would sure appreciate it.Thanks for any and all help.....James

Take a look at the pins, on the trans switch.

Re: trouble with gear sensor?????
Thank you very much for the helpful info, did you get that out of the owners manuel? Or a separate sevice manuel? I will give it a try and post what I found to be the proble. Thanks again James.

Re: trouble with gear sensor?????
I am definately going to have to invest in a service manuel.I printed off them sheets you posted up and had a look at it today.I had to take the bed off so I could get to the position sensor. One thing I would do different is put a clean cloth down flat underneath the sensor. When I pulled it out one of the dowels fell out.I lucked out and found it with a magnet, if anyone takes theirs apart be sure to be careful cause their is 2 spring loaded dowels in there.I looked everything over and when in neutral it was in the position like the photo showed.I put it back together and it still did the same thing?? Where exactly does a person test for resistance? How do I do it?Put the red lead on the white constant power and check the other wires?I unbolted the shift cable and worked the shift arm by hand thru all the gears and no change?? Could it possibly be in the programing?Something as easy as takeing it to the dealer and getting them to plug into it and reset the shift point? Thanks for any and all help.

Re: trouble with gear sensor?????
I can't believe no one else has chimed in?
To measure the resistance you need to put your common on your ohms meter to "A" then take the resistance reading across "B-F" on the resistor module. I suggest that you disconnect your battery this should help keep you from shorting anything out, your meter will supply the power needed to measure the resisters.
Another thing you could do is check the continuity on the transmission switch. "C" would be the common "A,B,D,E, & F" would be the test points for each of the respective gear selections. Test at the trans switch, in other words unplug the trans connector and test at the switch. Put the transmission in park and test for continuity across "C & F" then just go down the line. If you get continuity across all the pins when the transmission is in the correct gear then your transmission switch should be Ok then I would move on to testing the resistor module.

Re: trouble with gear sensor?????
Follow the service manual instructions on how to get into the Rzr diagnostic mode and get into the function that displays the actual resistor values. Compare your readings to the chart. If they are out of spec for the gears you are in, the display won't match.
I've never messed with the position switch. I would have assumed it could be rotated into correct adjustment but the diagram makes it look like it's not. Take it to the dealer while you're still under warranty.

Re: trouble with gear sensor?????
it sounds like a ground problem or maybe your resistor pack has somethign wrong with it..
i would first check the pins on the range selector, make sure everything is making contact as it should,
you can use diagnostic mode to see what the dash is seeing, the dash is actually just a big ohmmeter/voltmeter.

I was hopeing I could just adjust the position of the sensor however it is made solid so it only bolts on one way no turning it.I am at work right now and with alll the firewalls and whatnot I can not get that service manuel downloaded, could someone post the pages for running the diagonstics for me Please.I would have taken it to the dealer however since I bought it in the US and I live in Canada I am haveing a hard time finding anyone to cover the warranty.Sounds like a crock of s&&t to me with NAFTA and all???I think the dealers can just pick and choose who they want to help and who they don't.Thanks for the help James.

Re: trouble with gear sensor?????
Hi guys, I was able to get my rzr into a dealer to look at it and they found that the resistor module was covered in mud and shorting out.You guys were setting me on the right path, if I was only able to download that service manuel .I will get him to show me exactly where it is and post some pics when I get home so the next person will be able to know where it is located. He said he put some electrical jelly in it to keep the moisture out. What has everyone been useing to waterproof their connections? It definately looks like an issue that has to be addressed. Thanks for all the help You guys are great.

Re: trouble with gear sensor?????
Use dielectric grease. This is what your dealer is referring to as jelly.
