Rubber air housing problems

I have a standard air box on my RZR and am having problems. The rubber part from the air filter to the engine has come off at the engine. I tried to attach it but when I tighten the clamp it pulls off the engine intake. I have called the dealer and according to the VIN there are no recall issues. How do I make sure that the rubber stays attached to the engine? Here is the problem, I had it at the dunes and have no idea how long it was off. Power seems fine. Any suggestions.

Re: Rubber air housing problems

same thing happened to mine......i spaced the airbox over 1/2" towards the throttle body...it seems to stay on now.....keep a check on your oil level as if it did get the rings like mine it will run fine but use oil til you have big problems....a friend of mine used a qt every 40-50miles when his oil rings got wiped out....you could have serious problems then.....have it checked out by your dealer if you notice it smoking or using oil and i bet your compression will be low.....service limit if i can remember right is 150psi and mine was starting and running pretty good with 100psi.......iw ill bet your cylinders have been polished by the sand and be ready for a rebuild.....also try some bigger clamps from a hardware store to get more surface area and push as par onto throttle body as possible before tightening.....if you dont get a good bite clean the rubber with something like brake clean to get it soft and tacky

Re: Rubber air housing problems

I know for sure polaris did a re-call on the intake because they weren't sealing properly. But i am not sure the vin number effected. I think the newer ones are fixed, but the early ones are having issues. Maybe you want to call another dealer with your vin number to see.

Re: Rubber air housing problems

According to the VIN and my local dealer, there is no recall on my RZR. I was looking at moving the air box closer to the intake. I'll check the oil for any problems. Thanks all.

Re: Rubber air housing problems

mine did that and i heard of a handful of others that did it. but i was under the inpression that this was from very early production units.. what is your build date? mine was born last april.

the fix btw is to suck it up on there really good and clamp it down tight with a new clamp.. my fix was to pull the airbox off and throw it away..
i did my own air intake.

Black Rubberized Seal Tape it will seal propane leaks, etc...one or two wraps and then clamp on your air boots...it sticks to both sides as it is double sided....
Home Depot and Lowes sell it for emergency repairs...

Re: Rubber air housing problems

I'll try the tape. I am going to move the air box closer to the intake as some have suggested. This all started with a visit to Dragon Fire Racing. Their tech was putting a turbo charger on a RZR. I was asking about a new red air box and the tech told me that they mount the box to another part of the frame. He said as mounted now, when the frame torques it can pull the boot off the engine. Sure enough, I went home and looked and saw the very problem. Everyone needs to check for this connection. Now I need to determine if any damage has occurred and fix the boot.

Re: Rubber air housing problems

do a leakdown test, if it fails, take it to the dealer, explain what happened, have them do a leakdown test and polaris will authorize a new topend.. that is what happend to me.

Re: Rubber air housing problems

Might be stating the obvious here, but if you think your machine sucked dust and dirt into it, I'd change out the oil asap, probably the cheapest preventative thing you could do at this point. Good Luck
