UNI filters suck sand!!!!!
wow i just removed my UNI for the stock airbox and i found some sand in my intake. before you ask i did oil the inner and work it in twice before i put the outer wrap on and the outerware over that. this was one hard weekend in the glamis dunes riding behind some sand cars and two wheelers. so yes i was in the roost a couple of times. but that no excuse for this poor filtration.
i have run my stock filter and outerware for wo trips to the dunes and never had a spec of dirt in the intake. looks like i am going back to stock untill UMP sells their airbox. here are some pics of my horror.

Re: UNI filters suck sand!!!!!
Mega,
I had a UNI in and when i put my Air Fuel meter in, I noticed that at wide open throttle I was running rich, even with fuel controller leaned out all the way. I switched back to stock filter and had to add one click richer at wide open throttle. So stock flows alot better. Now seeing your filter makes me even more happy I switched back.
Are you going to inspect cylinders?
Keep us posted fuel tanks.
Jason

Re: UNI filters suck sand!!!!!
The RZR filter is the same as the 800 sportsman fitler. As an alternative to the UMP ( nice product, way expensive) I used a fleetguard filter housing p.n ah19091. You will have to be long traveled, but it uses a outer and inner safety filter. the housing has a 3" inlet and outlet. the housing is approx.15" long and 8" around. Then a piece of flexable cold air ducting into the bed. On the race RZR we mounted the entire cannister in the bed to get it out of the rolling dustball that is desert racing and it works really well. Be sure to support the intake track with some bracketry to keep the throttle body from ripping out of its boot.(Polaris weakpoint) Hopefully the UNI didn't let enough by to hurt the engine. I am surprised though, thats usually a great filter.

Re: UNI filters suck sand!!!!!
That sucks. I think I will just cut a hole in my bed and run it up through the bed with a k&n with an outerwear like Mafia Ind. Does their race RZR's.

I would also like to see a pic of the intake described above by odtodd1az ... Uni is normally a good product sounds like they dropped the ball on the RZR filter though thanks for the heads up on the problem megadesertdiesel

Re: UNI filters suck sand!!!!!
The family RZR has a K&N with an outerwear on it in the stock air intake box(the one in the bed between the seats) and it runs fine after 4 trips and at least 200 miles in the dunes.
 .
We also run open K&Ns on all our Banshees and have had no problems sucking in sand, and we have been running that way for 10 years!
Don't want to start a K&N UNI war, but K&Ns and outerwears have worked very well for us.

Re: UNI filters suck sand!!!!!
RE: No more dirt in my engine thanks to the new CYCLONE RZR Filter from BTI Performance Products - BTI Performance Products
availble from Yamaha Rhino Accessories, Yamaha Rhino Performance, Arctic Cat Prowler, Polaris Ranger, Custom Yamaha Rhino @ DragonFireRacing.com
My name is J. Rhodes and I just recently purchased an Air filter for my Polaris RZR directly from you. Installation was simple and straight forward.
Took it out for a trial run this weekend and was amazed with the results. We rode in so much dust you could literally not breathe without a mask or some type of filtration device on your face. (no joke) We logged 69.5 miles this weekend and could barely tell one bike from another with all the dust at the end of the day. I figured I was due for a rebuild after that trip and expected to be scooping dust out of the airbox.
Well........upon inspection there wasnt a single grain of sand in the air boot! Granted there was a ton of dust on the filter and in the canister but with a little compressed air and a wet cloth I was back in business.
Just wanted to thank you guys for building a superior product and backing up your claims. Thats rare in business today and even with price point set where it is, it is still well worth the investment.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you,
J. Rhodes

Re: UNI filters suck sand!!!!!
megadesertdiesel, I will try and get a picture up of our set up, everything I have is too big and I don't have a program for chopping, nor am I savy enough to know how. you can however go to fleetgaurd on the web and look up the housing by part number. ah19091

Re: UNI filters suck sand!!!!!
i had the same problem with my RZR because i was using UNI air filter. after riding for an hour in the dunes i notised that my RZR was not giving the power i used too and the enging started making noise and when i checked the oil, the engin was almost empty, eaven thought it was my 1st ride after changing oil. after adding 1 lit of oil, i started the engin the noise went awy but after getting home and taking the filtr off there was so much sand and some went in side the engin.
