Anyone having over heating problems?

My RZR seems to be running really hot out in Glamis. At night you can actually see the pipe glowing red.

A glowing red pipe usually means you are running lean.

Could This Be Caused By Reg Unleaded Vs Higher Octane??

Higher Octane - for sure.. What Octant? Over 98 will cause alot of extra heat...

Re: Anyone having over heating problems?

Thankyou everyone...... I took it into the dealer today. They said I should run higher octane fuel. That makes no sense since higher octane means more heat. Oh well their gonna call polaris and ask them,so thankyou again to everyones help.

Re: Anyone having over heating problems?

Hey Moonshine,

FYI - Engine run cooler on race gas not hotter.

If the guy runs race gas in glamis it will help him out, race gas will prevent detonation, detonation causes heat, and eventually problems.

No detonation = less heat , just the facts man

100 octane should be fine, if your runing high compression over 12.5 to 1 then you may need more octane.

Re: Anyone having over heating problems?

M RZR seems to run hot at Glamis too. No warning on the dash, but the fan is on a lot and the stock exhaust header coating has flaked away.

Melted the fender plastic (which happens to most everyone), but also melted the black panel behind the passenger seat.

Engine & exhaust - completely stock. I run 91 octane.

Re: Anyone having over heating problems?

Kennerz,

I would agree with you only if the motor can breath the heat out. Race gases do not burn cooler. We run 121 and 110 in all of our race cars, this same fuel put into my RZR "Stock so far" will run very hot. Pipes will glow. Could be the altitute in which you guy operate.. That could make some diffrence.

Same here. The paint on the exhaust sucks. where the paint has come off it has rust after washing it. At glamis my fan came on more at night than in the day and it was freezing at night.

Re: Anyone having over heating problems?

Moonshine,

If your racecar runs hotter on race gas that is strange. is that carbed or efi? If your car runs hotter I would think you have either a lean condition or timming problem.

Te specific gravity of race gas is different than pump gas, that is why usually you have to re-tune for it.

Usually a motor build for 91 will run rich on 110. I believe your experience, but from what I know if a motor is fueled/tuned properly it will always run cooler.

When people run it in bikes, the use it to reduce heat, and knock - I'm not arguing with you but what your saying doesn't make any sense.

Re: Anyone having over heating problems?

Hi Kennerz

I understand your comments, These race cars are producing... 87 GTS Nissan 1100 HP, Sister Car Nissan GTP approx 1100, Nissan P Car 1400 turbo dialed up, more.. We race historic Races. These HP Ranges are at the highest end of the scale most of these car run, 700-900 average on the track.

Lead reduces Knock as often as octane, These fuels as you know are synthetic. The only way they could possible reduce heat is to let the heat out... These RZR's with Stock Pipe I would think generate alot of back preasure, thus heat.

I am not expert, just an owner with cool toys, confertable seats and can drive.
