Re: Holz skid plate

It's my Brother-in Laws, Wifes , Dad who is a hoot, still close enough for us to be called family.
Being near 400 miles away it is not just a lark to get up there.
Anyways Bellingham WA is just short of where Holz is located and George
always wants go to this tool place when we are there for fun and we drive by Holz business.

Re: Holz skid plate

Okay this might sound picky.
On my quads I have had a real problem with mud/dirt collecting in the
belly of the skid plates.

There do not appear to be any holes to be able to wash the mud out.
I have not looked at one of these so I don't know if that will be a problem.
If its a flush mount maybe not but on my quads it would hold about 50lbs of mud if I let it build up.

I know this is not a problem in the desert so that smooth bottom is perfect.

Rzrider, do you think it will build up if we ride in mud?

Re: Holz skid plate

Has Holtz been the only company who actually listened to us in regards to bringing us these UHMV products? One has to believe that they sell a good number of them; as many former quad riders won't run anything else and (smartly) make these their first aftermarket purchase.
Great example of a company building what we need while all the while knowing that a big chunk of the market segment will someday 'get it'....and then clean up even more.
(with the other perfect example being these: ATV || Holz Racing Products ).

I ride in a lot of mud and have not had to drop the plate yet. Granted I did put a silicon bead at the front of the plate but nothing on the sides or rear other than where there was a gap or two.

Now the sand is another story. That stuff comes from all directions and I've had to lower the rear section to blow the sand out.

Re: Holz skid plate

RZRider I like your Holz Racing skid plate, but I do have Q. which type you do have ? I like the rise on side, on Holz site they offer one for nerf bars and other without, but their picture are not so good like yours. Is yours non nerf bars type ?

Re: Holz skid plate

Mine are the non nerf style.
The nerf style end at the bottom of the frame and do not wrap around the plastic.

Non nerf installed

Re: Holz skid plate

The wrap around or the flat?
If you're looking for the flats I have the used set you see in the photo.

Re: Holz skid plate

These skids don't make sense to me? If UHMW is better than aluminum then why are the sides aluminum? If aluminum is better than UHMW then why is the center skid UHMW? Why not a full UHMW skid?

I think you can't form or bend the UHMW so good like aluminum, and if you want to copy bends on side and the front or rear where skids are mounted you are probably better to use aluminum. You can probably bend UHMW with same special machine which will apply heat on it ( I think ), but cost will go up to much. Only Q. I have is the OEM skid so bad ? Because I was thinking just to add aluminum pieces, if the sell them separately, but on other token, if will be just small price difference between complete system and just metal staff, I would go with complete set up. IMHO

I think the main difference is most rocks and or garbage wind up in the center of the RZR, where the material should be the most slippery. Aluminum is NOT slippery and in severe cases will get gouged and even rip or tear stopping your ride. I also agree that the aluminum can be conformed to body parts much better.
I'm sure there are other reasons but I can tell you the combination works AWESOME for me.

I had the stock skids for a day, hooked a huge boulder while riding the desert at night and the stock skid literally exploded where there was no support.
I can't begin to tell you how abrupt the stop was other than to say my neck still hurts.

Re: Holz skid plate

I thought I could add a bit here. I have the Holz full skid plate w/ side guards and LOVE! it. The UHMW slides over large rocks great! I would recommend this setup to anyone. Having said that, I have 2 things to add.

1) this skid setup is great, but not indestructible. look at the top of the attached pic. notice the hole in my Holz. not really sure which rock did this or how I was driving at the time. I had several hard hits (and 1 rollover) that day.

2) for those of you with the latest gen RZR (mine is only 1 mo old) the Holz rear diff skid plate (part of the 4 piece set) will not fit over the hitch that is integrated into the frame. The installation directions specify the hitch needs to be removed (which cannot be done on the latest gen). I did not know this when I ordered. I called Holz Racing (360) 398-7006 and spoke with Matt. I explained what I had, was put on hold for about 5 min. When he came back he said "we are aware of the issue and will be sending you a new rear diff cover setup next week when we finish fabing them up! at no cost to you". Great customer service! one of the many reasons I would recommend this to anyone!!

Re: Holz skid plate

Man, that had to be one HUGE impact. LOL
How much you want for that rear plate? I have a GEN1 that we cracked the plate and I'd love to replace it.
