rear pre runner warning for 09's

i just recieved my rear bumper and tire rack and the bumper was designed for the 08's so when they aimed the exhaust down on the 2009's it aims right on the cross bar on the bumper and is really loud and annoying. polaris needs to fix this for the new year. i'm not happy about it.

rzrider,

I have a 2009 Nuclear Sunset SE, I had them put on the rear brushguard, Polaris PN 2876521-458 and the cross tube is well above the exhaust. There is nothing in front of the tipped down exhaust. Just thought I would share.

I have an 09 with the pre runner back bumper . The exhaust tip does point down at the cross bar slightly but I don't think it makes the vehicle louder. I am actually surprised how quite it is when driving at speed. Its not super quite but its better than most quads and dirt bikes I've heard. With that said, I am waiting to see if Benz will come out with a model that will fit the 09 models. But I don't think the bumper is to blame for its current decibel level.

Re: rear pre runner warning for 09's

I can confirm this is an issue. I just picked up my 2009 RZR with the rear bumper and the exhaust does point straight at crossbar. Only see a few ways to fix this.

1) Redesign rear bumper
2) Provide a slip on tip to angle exhaust away from crossbar
3) Replace with aftermarket exhaust

The sound once you get going is not bad, but at idle and slow speeds it is much louder.

you can lower your muffler by cutting your mounting bracket and welding lower by 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. that might help clear your bumper bar. I did this to get clearance for my rear winch mount. make sure to loosen the clamp where the muffler goes into the mid-pipe. easy fix.

Or just cut the tube out and move it down. So far I've just got the tube removed and have been running it , I'll have it welded in after the season is over.

I can see this solution putting stress on the rest of the exhaust system and causing cracks or other tension related failures.

Hmmm...this is the Rear Brushguard I had installed on my 2009 Nuclear Sunset SE its Polaris PN 2876521-458. Is this the one others with 2009 RZRs are having problems with interfering with their exhaust?

the muffler is just rotated a few degrees in the clamp and the bracket lowered a little and rewelded. midpipe is left in the exact location .I can't see it causing anything tension just by lowering the rear of the muffler..

I don't see what the issue is with this. It doesn't interfere with anything and doesn't cause any issues as far as driving/functionality is concerned. The only thing I have noticed is a bit of exhaust coloration on the bumper cross bar if you look closely. Here is a picture of my 09 with the pre runner bumper. This is a non issue as far as I am concerned, YMMV.

Re: rear pre runner warning for 09's

I escalated this issue to my Polaris Dealer. They contacted Polaris and asked for a resolution. Here is the reply they got in writing from Polaris, which they gave me a printout of:

"RZR Rear Pre-runner Bumper - Please note the accessory pre-runner bumper will only fit the 2008 RZR. For '08 models use 2876403-458 PRE-RUNNER BUMPER There is a new bumper in development that will fit both years and is scheduled to be available in Q4. A part # will be published when available. ---[10/08/2008]--- The bumper he currently has will be warrentied, it's his choice if he wants to use it until the new bumper is available or remove it until then."

So great news! I can live with the current bumper for a month or two until they give me the new one. For anyone else who purchased a new 09 with this bumper, go see your dealer and ask them to contact Polaris and get a written copy of something along these lines now, in case your warrenty is expiring soon, or before new bumper is released.

I will post pics when I get new one in.

Well it seems to fit on my 09 with no problems. I'll bet a beer that the "redesigned" 09 bumper costs more than the current one when it finally comes out. A solution for a problem that doesn't exist......go figure.

Well I would have to disagree that its not a problem. Listening to two RZR's in the shop side by side, the noise difference is pretty big. Not to mention the crossbar getting hot from the exhaust hitting it. The owner of the dealership listened to it, and looked at it. He was more upset than I was about it, and he did. Two days later and I have a commitment for a new bumper to address it. So far I am very happy with my service.

Its good to hear that your dealer is addressing your issue and that your getting a bumper that you're happy with. As far as noise levels go, I think you're splitting hairs, but thats your opinion and your entitled to it.

Since taking delivery of my 09, I have driven it from my house to where I work on a hard ball going 55 mph most of the way, which is approx 10 miles, and haven't noticed the bumper or the crossmember heating up. Not even when I am in the desert crawling up around in the hills in low and then drive it home at 55mph have I noticed the bumper heating up. I know this because I wipe it down as soon as I get home before putting it in the garage. The most I have noticed is a little bit of carbon on the crossmember but thats it. YMMV.
