Re: Teflon Skid Plate Is Awsome !!!

We used to use Teflon for our Airboat bottoms and now we use UHMW and it's much better. We were replacing Teflon all the time and now are still operating on the same set of bottoms and our costs were cut by 200%.

I just had three sets cut at our machinist's shop on his Water-Jet. Today I got one of them indexed so he can setup to cut the mounting holes and then the slots that I want. He's machining a set of Front and Rear CV/Stick Guards for me to test.

I would say the Teflon is a little more slippery, but just not enough to pay the difference and isn't as durable. Just what I've found with the Airboats over the last 3 years.

Re: Teflon Skid Plate Is Awsome !!!

Teflon and UHMW must be fairly close in their friction and wear properties. You see them both used interchangeably in wear plates on conveyors, ag equipment, idlers/tensioners/guides, etc. What little hands-on I've had with it I feel it's too soft and easily damaged. I think it's so expensive and popular due to it's ability to take high temperatures.
