Rockslider Nerf Bars

Okay, this might seem like a silly question, but...

I have the factory (and some say rather useless) rockslider nerf bars.

I've noticed it's *possible* to fit them an extra 1" further away from the bodywork by using the other holes on the mounting plate. Not only does this kind of then give you a little step (umm, if you have little feet) but they do look kind of look cooler set further away from the body. Interestingly, in the early photos from Polaris, they did look set further away - but it was because the side plastics were different. The new plastics make the bars flush against the plastic, which is a shame.

Anyway, my question is - has anybody else done this? Aside from making your RZR 1" wider both sides (which isn't a problem if you've got big tyres) are there any problems I've overlooked? Are they even more likely to fall off?

Not sure I would extend them out; about a month ago we road up at Windrock and with them in the stock position they took a beating. I think you would rip them off if they stuck any further out and you hit a stump or rock at any speed.

Ooh, a late reply!

I agree with what you've said - that was my concern before I tried it - but since then I've noticed a few other peeps have put them in that configuration. I've also subsequently whacked a log at speed with them, and no visible damage. Not really much scope for rock crawling here - too many tourists on the rocky bits, so any beatings they take is almost always going to be accidental, at least in theory. The forestry peeps need to stop leaving logs about in grass, darn inconsiderate of them!

That said, part of me wants them knocked off - damn things weigh about 10 megatonne and if the bolts were no longer buried under a mountain of cow dung I would probably be taking them off by now. But I just think they look cool, and along with my 20 megatonne bruiser wheels I probably have my own gravitational system.
